Jesmond Dene Badminton Club

Club Information

Jesmond Dene Badminton Club meets twice per week, on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm. Visitors, new members and junior members are always welcome. You can either turn up to any club session, or contact the Club Secretary for further details (see Contacts).

Fees are £100 for the season - this covers everything, we do not charge a session fee over and above this if you join the club.  If you join the club late on in the season we will reduce the fees accordingly.

The fee for visitors is only £4 per session, you are welcome to come along and try the club as a visitor a few times before deciding if you want to join. We do maintain a minimum standard and unfortunately this means we cannot accommodate complete beginners. Intermediate standard players or those who have had a break from the game, as well as more experienced players, are certainly very welcome to come along to the club and give us a try.

The main badminton club season runs from September until Easter. After the main season ends at Easter, we may run a summer club to which anyone is welcome to come along and play. If the summer club runs it will be for one night per week, and we will charge a small fee on the night. See Announcements or Contacts for more details if a summer club is operating.

We play at Central Newcastle High School in  Brandling Village, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. We play at the sports hall which is located behind Clayton Park Square, near to the Collingwood Pub (map). To find us, turn onto Clayton Park Square by the Londis shop on Clayton Road. Continue straight on down the small lane past the Wine Glass off-licence and Brandling Bar. The sports hall is ahead of you, to the left. The entrance to the sports hall is on the corner of the building nearest to the Collingwood. We have four badminton courts (see Gallery).  There is street parking in the evenings on and around Clayton Road, and the venue is walking distance from Jesmond Metro Station or bus stops on the Great North Road.

The club has been established for over 20 years and is affiliated to Badminton England through the Northumberland County Badminton Association. We play with feather shuttles and have mixed, ladies' and men's teams playing in the Northumberland Badminton League (see Fixtures). We currently have around 30 members covering a range of ages and abilities.
